|Species:|| Tadorna tadorna|
The shelduck (Tadorna tadorna) is a duck related to geese.
It has a white body with chestnut patches, white wing coverts, black primaries, green secondaries, metallic green-black neck and pink beak and feet. It is about 60cm long and its wingspan misures from 110cm to 130cm. The Shelduck resembles a goose because of its neck (which is long for a duck) and behavior. Sexes look alike.
This bird eats small aquatic invertebrates and plants. It takes these foods from the mud; infact, shelducks spend lots of their time walking in the mood.
The Shelduck lives in Eurasian temperate areas. In winter it migrates in subtropical zones in Africa and South Asia.
It lives in swamps an nests in holes dug into the ground.
