From the Kingfisher family of birds the Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) and the Magpie are the most famous singing birds of the Australian outback.
Prefers woodland and forest areas common all over the east coast of Australia and inland to broken hill less spread out on the west coast of Australia. Nests in hollow trees.
This bird is sized 46 cm. Has a dark bill; underparts and head is faintly barred brown.
