The Japanese Waxwing (Bombycilla japonica) is a species of waxwing.
Description[]
A crested, 20 cm long bird, mostly fawn in colour. Black, triangular wings with white and red markings, and short black tail with red tips. Orange undertail. Black mask and bib, black bill, and dark legs. Sexes alike.
Behaviour[]
Feeds on insects in the summer, and on berries, fruit and seeds all year round. Gregarious, mostly seen in flocks. Partial and irregular migrator. Monogamous; breeds in summer, lays about 5 whitish mottled eggs.
Distribution and Habitat[]
Lives in coniferous or mixed open woodland with some fruiting trees in South-East Asia (particularly in Japan). Sometimes seen in parks and gardens.
