The Eurasian tree sparrow is a small passerine bird. Its scientiphic name is passer montanus. it lives in Eurasia and it is the smallest Eurasian sparrow.
Descripion
It is related to the house sparrow and to the Italian sparrow. It is almost identical to the Italian sparrow, but is slightly smaller (13 cm) and has a white collar and a black spot on the cheeck. Male and female are identical. The tree sparrow looks like more compact and "chubby" than the house sparrow and than the Italian sparrow.
Behavior
The tree sparrow lives in woodlands, near cultivated areas or human abitation. It eats mainly seeds and fees its chicks with insects. It often nests in nestboxes and tree holes. Its call is a dry "tett-ett-ett-ett", and the song is a fast serie of "tsvit". The tree sparrow usually lives 6 years or more.
